Seriously? Aries Rufo, Who is the Christ’s Representative Here On Earth?

Dumali na naman po si Aries Rufo at ang ABSCBN News/ ANC sa kaniyang o kanilang article na Rosales: PGMA has failed leadership test, kung saan ay sinabi ng kung sino mang responsable sa artikulong ito ang sumusunod na pangungusap:

Arroyo is a devout Catholic, and, at one time, invoked the Pope, Christ’s representative on earth, as urging her to seek the presidency.

Seriously? Lets stick to the fact and stop from using annoying phrases like “CHRIST REPRESENTATIVE ON EARTH.” Seriously? What do you think the Iglesia ni Cristos, Muslims, Protestants and the  atheists reactions to this statement would be?. Who told you that the Pope is indeed the CHRIST’s REPRESENTATIVE on EARTH? Is it your priest, your religion, your parents and friends?

Lets stick to the fact!

I respectfully disagree, Mr. Aries Rufo

In Aries Rufo’s 11/10/09 report entitled: Former BIR chief forcibly ousted, I believe Mr. Aries Rufo is making a harsh accusation. In his report he said:

Weeks ago, Esquivias found out that the appointment papers of his temporary replacement, senior deputy commissioner Joel Tan-Torres, has already been signed, insiders and watchers at the BIR said. He had no choice but to quit. He tendered his resignation as Commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue on October 30, a Friday.

It appears to me that Esquivias has made a choice to resign. He could have waited until he is replaced, fired, or relocated in some other department. There is always a choice, and Esquivias’  has chosen to “resign.”

I do not see where force was applied against him. It is clear to me however, that the claim that Esquivias was forcibly ousted was Mr. Aries Rufo’s opinion. Thats what my friends thought given Mr. Rufo’s lines:

In other words, Esquivias was forcibly taken out of his post. His ouster was a plan that took some months of execution. It was a coup that was waiting to happen.

Afterall, Mr. Esquivias said:

“The BIR has a large tax collection shortfall right now, and I feel ashamed to stay.”

Is it really necessary, Aries Rufo?

Dear Aries Rufo,

I saw in ABS-CBN website your 11/06/09 article entitled Palace appoints Villarama new SC justice. In the article you write:

Supreme Court now a ’100% Arroyo Court’
MANILA – Malacañang appointed on Friday Senior Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Martin Villarama to the High Tribunal, making it a 100% “Arroyo Court.” It was Villarama’s ninth nomination to the Supreme Court (SC), after being bypassed in favor of junior members of the CA.

If I will be your editor, which is and will be very unlikely because of my “grammar disabilities”, I will rewrite the above and make it looks like this:

Supreme Court now a ’100% Arroyo Court’

ABS-CBN, please tell Aries Rufo and Jesus Llanto to be fair

Dear ABS-CBN,

I have read the 10/23/2009  report of Aries Tulfo Rufo (corrected, 11/04/09) and Jesus Llanto entitled: “Gibo delayed purchase of rubber boats.” I have reasons to believe that these two “journalists” have done Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro some harm. Obviously, they have failed to be fair.

(1) There is nothing in the article to suggest that the Defense Secretary’s explanation was sought. His side of the story is nowhere to be found.
(2) These lines were part of the article: “Another DND source said Teodoro earlier downplayed the purchase of the RHIBs because at that time, there was no imminent threat to lives. Ondoy proved him wrong, and disaster preparedness officials are now in a hurry to procure RHIBs.” I do not see any reason why the DND source was not identified here. I feel that Teodoro was not given the chance to refute it or to explain. If Teodoro was given the chance to explain, I believe Tulfo and Llanto should have indicated it in the article.

The “Ondoy proved him wrong” sounds like a sarcastic opinion to me. Besides, if the DND source (whoever he/she is) was honest that Teodoro downplayed the purchase the RHIBs because “at that time, there was no imminent threat to lives”, I believe these two reporters need to let the us know when “that time” was and if there was really an “imminent threat” at “that time”.

After all he could be right at “that time”?

(3) In the same article:  ”"In insisting for a public bidding, was Teodoro just being prudent with government spending or was it a case of misplaced priority?” Are these two reporters trying to inform us, or trying to do something else? I feel that this “line of question” is placed there not to inform but to put Sec. Gilbert Teodoro in bad light.

ABS-CBN, please do remind your “journalists, reporters, or writers” to clearly label analysis and commentary”. Without clear labels, readers, such as myself, may think that the “report” is bias and is being reported with ill-intent.

Hindi ko po sigurado kung binabasa po ni Aries Tulfo Rufo, Jesus Llanto or ng editors ninyo ang mga comments ng nagbabasa sa website. Pero, mukhang hindi lang po yata ako ang nakapuna nang pagiging bias ng article na ito.
