One of the reasons why news agencies should not use Wikipedia as a source:

In his popular noontime show, “Wowowee,” Revillame said there was no truth to the information uploaded on Wikipedia and Twitter saying he had passed away. — Willie: Wikipedia, Twitter wrong: I’m Alive.

ABS-CBN, you should have known it because one of your talents experience how Wikipedia can be harmful as a source of information.

 

ABS-CBN and Reyma Buan-Deveza: Wikipedia, Again?

Dear ABS-CBN,

Please tell Reyma Buan-Deveza to stop using Wikipedia as a source. In her “If Noynoy wins, will Kris act as First Lady dated 11/03/2009″, she writes:

According to Wikipedia, a first lady, traditionally the spouse of the sitting president of the country, has no official duties. She nonetheless attends many official ceremonies and functions of state either along with or in place of the president. The first lady also frequently participates in humanitarian and charitable works, Wikipedia said.

Manila Bulletin: You are “Guilty” as well

Guilty of what, you asked?

Here is your assignment:

(1) Figure out why you should not use Wikipedia as a source
(2) Figure out why you are in news business
(3) Reconcile the first two. Then do it then times!

Please stop using Wikipedia as a source. I see that you used Wikipedia in the following articles:

• 10/14/2009: Nina receives recognition for ‘Nina Live!’ CD
• 10/05/2009: ABS-CBN bags “Got Talent” franchise
• 09/19/2009: Nevada Sports Body Clears Pacman of Steroid Use
• 08/24/2009: Pinoy is Story Supervisor of “Up” Movie
• 06/18/2009: Torre plans to join Antonio in World Chess Cup
• 05/31/2009: Survivor Contenstant Dies in Caramoan
• 04/27/2009: RP tinseltown icon Paraluman dies

I can keep on going, but it will be a tiring task. Just please do the Filipino people a favor. Stop using Wikipedia. It is not a reliable source. And also, if you choose to remove those articles from your website, please put an indication that they once were there. I do not want the people to think that I am making these allegations.

Once again, please stop using Wikipedia. It is not a reliable source. It simply is not. I will leave it up to you to research why.
